Tickled pink
Meaning:
• excited and happy
• very much pleased
• delighted
Palm Springs has lots of pink and what girl doesn’t love that. You might remember I mentioned that I always wanted to live in I dream of Jeannie’s bottle and living in Palm Springs comes pretty close. From Elvis’s pink bed, to the pink doors of Indian Canyon and from pink Ford Thunderbirds to pink caftans, I’m tickled pink in Palm Springs!
I was a docent for modernism week and had the opportunity to witness the most jeannie bottle living house imaginable. Pink velvet walls, pink shag carpet, so much ostentatiousness it would even make Liberace blush. The house hasn’t been touched since last decorated in 1969 and thank goodness for that, we are truly stepping back in time. The owner at that time was a plumber to the stars and it looks like plumbing paid well.
A must do if you come visit palm springs is the Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway, the home to the King and where Lisa Marie was conceived. I have been to Graceland and I have been to the honeymoon hideaway and the architectural and style winner is in PALM SPRINGS uh huh huh. This gorgeous mid century home was designed by famed architect William Krisel and built by the well loved modernist Alexander construction company and Elvis lived here from the mid to late 60s with Priscilla.
The exterior of this futuristic style house kind of looks like a spaceship hence its nickname “the house of tomorrow”. Once inside you know you have arrived somewhere amazing with it’s spectacular circular lounge room and floating fireplace. I was tickled pink!
Who wouldn’t want to lie on Elvis’s bed? The fact that it is pink just makes it that much more fun.
Elvis had a thing for Cadillacs and his Pink Cadillac is one of the world’s most iconic cars and
has been on permanent display at Graceland for over 30 years. I’m sure Elvis would love and appreciate the beautiful pink cadillac parked outside the Canyon View Estates I snapped a photo of.

Here I received a real education on what bath time can look like for a lady.
I have seen a lot of wallpaper but was really enchanted by the wallpaper in the guest bedroom. This unique paper made me feel like I was engulfed in a pink himalayan rock salt crystal cave and it felt GOOD!!!! She may have to be careful though or her guests won’t want to leave!!
People often go on the Palm Springs Door Tour when they are visiting to get their fix of colorful midcentury door porn. “That Pink Door” has become a instagram star and has spawned a multitude of pink door sisters. This is a good thing and just adds more “I dream of Jeannie” vibes to our neighborhood. A local photographer nicknamed “Gre” has released a book of his Doors of Palm Springs.
